Kathy Griffin’s Jesus comments draw flames »

Kathy Griffin’s Jesus comments draw flamesComedian Kathy Griffin appears to have upset a few religious folks down in the USA with her Emmy award acceptance speech. Upon taking the stage and receiving the award for her series “My Life on the D-List” Griffin began by mocking those who thank Jesus for trite reasons such as winning something by stating “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus,”. She then continued in the same vein, ending with a “Suck it Jesus, this award is my God now”.

Bill Donohue of the American Catholic League isn’t impressed, saying it’s proof that Hollywood hates Jesus and Catholicism in particular. He wants her to apologise for her comments.

I think she is absolutely hilarious, and her acceptance speech is evidence of that.

Making offensive comments in a country that is very much Christian? It’s Kathy Griffin for goodness sake! How could you expect anything different?

Kathy Griffin Makes D-List Seem Amusing »

Kathy Griffin makes D-List seem amusing

Summer’s here, so it have to be time for another season of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (10 p.m. Tuesdays, Bravo; the premiere encores today at 10 a.m. and midnight). The custom of the show is pretty much set by now - it follows her adventures and travails as she travels the country doing stand-up shows and having strange adventures with her family and staff.

This season, she’s got an extended staff and her ex- husband Matt is gone - there’s a scene of true sentiment in the first episode as she discusses the “betrayals” that ended her marriage and how her divorce made her feel like “a failure.”

You also like Griffin and her chatter, or you don’t, so for fans of the caustic celebrity-skewing comedian, you’re hereby reminded that the third season of D-List has arrived. I’m not sure I’ll watch every episode of this season — I’m indecisive like that, and kind of feel like I’ve been there, done that — but Griffin’s show is a moderately entertaining enterprise, as summer reality TV goes.
