William Balfour Found Guilty Of Murdering Jennifer Hudson’s Family

Jennifer Hudson’s former brother-in-law, William Balfour, was found guilty for the murders of Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Jurors returned the guilty verdict after about 18 hours of deliberation over three days.

The Chicago Sun Times reports that Hudson had her head down when the verdict was read. She then talked to her fiance, David Otunga, and began to get emotional. Balfour had no reaction to the verdict.

Prior to reaching a decision, CNN reports that the jurors had sent Judge Charles Burns a note earlier in the day, saying they were split.

“We are trying,”
the note said.

The note also reportedly asked for cell-phone tower information, regarding testimony from an FBI analyst showing that Balfour’s cell phone had been near the Hudson home on the day the murders occurred.

Balfour pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder, home invasion, residential burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle related to the October 2008 slayings and was convicted on all counts. He now faces a mandatory life sentence.
